Global Congress on Verbal Autopsy: State of the Science

Robert Mswia of MEASURE Evaluation will present at the Global Congress on Verbal Autopsy that convenes key researchers and those who work with verbal autopsy data. He will discuss statistical models to predict malaria deaths in children under age 5.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, The University of Queensland School of Population Health and the Population Health Metrics journal are co-hosting the Global Congress on Verbal Autopsy: State of the Science. The goal of the conference is to convene key researchers and those who work with verbal autopsy data to discuss important aspects of instrument design, analysis methods, and the use of verbal autopsy in national health information systems.

MEASURE Evaluation designed a system for strengthening vital events monitoring and measurement, including causes of death titled, "SAVVY: Sample Vital Registration with Verbal Autopsy." SAVVY provides nationally representative information about levels and causes of mortality as well as other indicators not available from other sources.

At this meeting, MEASURE Evaluation staff will be presenting:

"Using Statistical Models to Predict Malaria Deaths in Children Under 5 Years"

Robert Mswia, Stirling Cummings, and Sian Curtis

"Application of Verbal Autopsy to Determine Causes of Under Five Mortality through Integration within a National Survey: Case of the Ghana 2008 Child Verbal Autopsy Study"

Ravi Goud, Gloria Quansah Asare, Grace Bediako, Stirling Cummings, Yusuf Hemed, Yazoume Ye, Robert Mswia
